Please join us at our October 8th Prayer Breakfast featuring George E. Barrett,  a native Nashvillian, practices Labor Law, Employment Law, Civil Rights, and Constitutional Law.

He received a B.S. degree from Spring Hill College in 1952, and a Diploma in Economics and Political Science from Oxford, England in 1953.  Mr. Barrett was graduated from the Vanderbilt Law School in 1957.

In additional Mr. Barrett has been involved in many significant cases.  Mr. Barrett was the original counsel in one of the oldest class action cases in the Middle District of Tennessee, which was the model for subsequent cases in the South.  The case, Geier, et al. v. Ellington, et al. Civ. No. 5077  U.. S.(M.D.Tenn.)(J. Wiseman), was originally filed in 1968, being the first legal challenge to an entire system of public higher education of a state.  The case was the model for the desegregation in public education throughout the south.  It was settled in 2006.

Mr. Barrett has also engaged in a number law suits over election contest, and voting rights, seeking to expand the right to vote to all eligible citizens.  He is a member of the Cathedral parish, the father of three daughters, and 11 grand children.
