We welcomed more than 50 attendees to this morning’s breakfast meeting, as Kate Guerra — Vice President for Communications and Corporate Affairs for the Tennessee Titans — shared insights on the role of her faith in her career.
“However you want to visualize it,” Guerra said, “God puts the right things in our path at the right time.”
As a native Texan, Guerra got to know the Titans while they were still the Houston Oilers. As a seven-year-old, when she asked why the Oilers would make a move if the players, coaches and their families all lived in Houston, her father responded: “Sometimes people have to move away in order to grow.”
She did just that when she moved to Austin for her undergraduate education at Texas, and likewise for her graduate degree in journalism at Indiana. Despite the uncertainty, she pointed to the reassurance that was repeatedly distilled in her by her family, especially her father and grandfather: God is going to lead us down the right path.
Speaking of the right path, Guerra updated the progress of the new Nissan Stadium, which is set to open by the 2027 NFL season. She pointed out that the exterior structure of the stadium continues to come together on schedule, with the interior and the roof set to follow.
But the message from the team isn’t simply what happens on the field, she noted, because there is plenty more that goes on behind the scenes in the lives of every single Titans player, especially the team’s work in the community as part of the One Community (Opportunity, Neighborhoods, Education) program. So telling their stories, Guerra said, is extremely gratifying, because that allows the players to be humanized and known for more than just their on-field statistics.
Our thanks to all attendees, as well as our sponsor Matt Brzica from French’s Cabinet Gallery, and best wishes to all of you throughout the coming year! We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting, when we’ll welcome Tim Connors on February 13!
