Following God’s Plan: 100 Years of Father Ryan High School

We were delighted to learn so much at yesterday’s Breakfast Meeting about the rich history of Father Ryan High School — which hosts its 100th Anniversary Community Celebration tomorrow afternoon — from Paul Davis (Father Ryan ’81), the President of Father Ryan! Tomorrow’s event begins what is truly a two-year celebration: the 2024-2025 school year marks the 100th school year of Father Ryan, while the Class of 2026 will conclude the 2025-2026 school year as Father Ryan’s 100th graduating class.

Davis highlighted that Father Ryan — which was founded in 1925 — actually began right here at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, as Nashville Catholic School for Boys. Soon after, however, the school outgrew the land and subsequently relocated to a five-acre campus on Elliston Place, before moving in 1991 to the current campus — of more than 40 acres — at 700 Norwood Drive.

Davis pointed out that Father Ryan remains rooted in “following the plan” that God has set out for the school: responding to the needs of the community, namely that of Catholic education in Nashville. He stressed that the decisions made by school leaders focus on fulfilling the school’s vision, a promise made to each parent about their students: You will be known. You will be loved.

Father Ryan’s students, Davis added, have been thriving in and out of the classroom. Many students have leveraged the dual enrollment courses and job-shadow programs in order to earn collegiate credit and gain valuable professional experience from a young age. In academics, athletics, service, and throughout their student experience, they embody the guidance that Davis has put forth: “How do you be Jesus each and every day?”

Join Father Ryan High School for its 100th Anniversary Community Celebration on Saturday afternoon, and likewise in the school’s 100 Masses that will be celebrated in Father Ryan’s honor throughout the two years! More information about the 100th Anniversary celebration can be found at FatherRyan.org/100.

Thanks to all who attended this week’s meeting, and we look forward to seeing you on October 10 for our next Breakfast Meeting!
