“It is good that we are here together.”
With these words, Bishop Mark Spalding celebrated the faith life of the Diocese of Nashville and challenged the audience to engage in that faith.
Speaking to a gathering of more than 150 Catholic Business League members and their guests at Thursday (March 8) morning’s monthly breakfast meeting at The Cathedral, Bishop Spalding reminded the assemblage that each of us in our daily lives must live their faith.
“We gather together at Christ’s table and then we go out into the world,” he said. “And that is what we are meant to do. Be part of things. Be part of your parish, part of your community, part of your business. You are men and women of faith. We don’t make it alone. We need each other.“
Focusing on two key parts of the Catholic mission in Nashville, Bishop Spalding asked for the audience’s help in two areas. Service and philanthropy. “In each of your parishes,” he said, “your pastors are asking for things. I am asking for one thing…read your parish bulletins. See what your pastors’ needs are. And respond.” He spoke specifically about the importance of Catholic education and its needs in our faith lives. “I am traveling to every school because our Catholic schools are worthy…and they will be continue to be worthy, and successful, if everyone in this room makes sure that they are.”
One of the ways you can do that is by helping support the EACS dinner on Sept 18th to make it a successful evening.
With his warm tone, humor and enthusiasm for his vocation, Bishop Spalding closed by talking about the people he has met and the joy he sees in each of them. “There are so many good things going on in our diocese. Open your eyes and open your hearts, and be involved.”
The March meeting was sponsored by the Tennessee Register, tpmbLAW, Catholic Charities, the Knights of Columbus and Camp Marymount. CBL President Steve Horvath announced that the next CBL breakfast meeting will feature John Bumpus, Chief Administrative Officer at LifePoint Hospitals. The meeting will take place on April 12, 2018 at Cathedral.
