A Morning About Faith, Business, and Leadership Catholic

IMG_5120

Approximately 100 CBL members and guests came to the Cathedral today to hear an enlightening panel discussion about faith, business and the growing presence of Leadership Catholic.

Our President Steve Horvath moderated, and speaking on the panel were Anna Burnett, a CPA and Audit Manager with Deloitte & Touche, Ryan McCostlin, a SVP with Bernard Health, Statasan CEO Jason Moore, and Bill Krueger, Chariman of JATCO Americas. The panelists introduced themselves by talking about the power of the Catholic faith and all talked about the universal aspect of the faith. Bill Krueger talked about going to Mass in Japan and experiencing the same liturgy as he would in Nashville, just in a different language. Anna Burnett commented on how special it is for her to be at Mass here and knowing that millions around the world are sharing the same Eucharist.

All of the panelists talked about leadership and the experience that Leadership Catholic has provided. Jason Moore talked about the importance of mentorship. “I didn’t have a formal mentor relationship, but I have discovered how valuable it is,” he stated. “The important first step is to ask for that mentor. They are here to help. And the most important point is to remember that you are in charge. The decisions you make are yours to make, not the mentors.” Krueger talked about how mentors can take many shapes, a coach, a friend, a relative. “They can be important guides to your future, helping you to figure out options and paths. And the Leadership Catholic program can be a catalyst to fostering mentorship, to spread the power of faith in all of our lives and the good news of the Gospel.”

Burnett considers her vocation to be a businessperson who lives her faith in that business world. “Even in a setting that isn’t evangelical, I can lead my life in a way that shows my faith,” she said, “and Leadership Catholic has helped show me how to do that.” McCostlin spoke of the connections that Leadership Catholic has introduced him to. “I am part of this community and excited about my faith, but I didn’t realize the breadth of the Catholic community here,” he said. “This program has introduced me to a number of mentors whose lives and examples are guiding me today.”

In addition to the panel discussion, the morning featured the unveiling of the CBL Presidents Plaque, honoring the prior presidents of the CBL for their leadership and service. Five past presidents were in attendance this morning and were saluted by the membership.
