On March 1, the Leadership Catholic Class of 2023 participated in a Government Day at the Historic Courthouse in Downtown Nashville, where they spent time with four local leaders in various roles throughout Music City.
The four leaders discussed their unique experiences, and each took the time to answer questions from the Leadership Catholic class after delivering their remarks. Here’s a recap of the speakers featured at the event:
- Sheriff Daron Hall, Sheriff of Davidson County
- Youngest person ever elected to the office, and the longest serving
- Designed and implemented a first-of-its-kind Behavioral Care Center, a diversion program aimed at decriminalizing mental illness
- Vice Mayor Angie Henderson
- Native Nashvillian
- Long-time advocate for walkable, bikeable, and better-connected communities
- Bonna Johnson, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications – Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau
- Served as press secretary and communications director for Mayor Karl Dean
- Previously worked as a reporter for The Tennessean and The Tampa Tribune
- Freddie O’Connell, Mayor of Nashville and Davidson County
- Served on Metro Council from 2015 to 2023, working to limit the impact of poverty while strengthening neighborhoods
- Oversaw an overhaul of the Metro Homelessness Commission and passed green energy bills to reduce expenses while ensuring cleaner air and water and increasing climate resiliency
