With wit, warmth and a wealth of golfing stories, 1975 U.S. Open Champion Lou Graham engaged the CBL last week at the monthly breakfast meeting. The stories focused on his experiences on the course, his friendships with players like Sam Snead, and his love of the game, but he also reflected on his days growing up in Nashville and how much this city and the Catholic community have meant to him.
Acknowledging his brother and sister-in-law, who were present, he told the assemblage, “I grew up in East Nashville, a product of Holy Name and Father Ryan, and a regular at Shelby Park Golf Course, and those experiences paved the way for the memorable things I was able to accomplish throughout my career.”
Pressed for opinions on the best courses in Nashville, he politely declined, saying, “whichever one I scored well on,” but he did say that if he had one round left to play, he’d love to do so at Pebble Beach, both for the course and the memories there.
It was a pleasure to be with him.
